I’ve always loved poetry. As a teenager, I would pour over love poems, looking for some understanding of what this confusing emotion was. I read the greats like Shakespeare and Neruda, trying to find answers in their words.
There’s a part of me that longs for deep, passionate love. I read poems about love and imagine what it would be like to feel those intense emotions. I fantasize about being so in love that nothing else matters. I daydream about being swept off my feet by a man who loves me unconditionally.
I know that deep love is possible because I’ve seen it firsthand. My parents have been married for over 50 years and they are still madly in love with each other.
They are living proof that true love does exist. I also see it in the way my friends care for their significant others. Even though I haven’t experienced it myself, I know that deep love is out there waiting for me.
Poetry has a way of capturing the essence of a moment or an emotion in just a few words. It can be both beautiful and painful, and it has always spoken to me on a deep level. I continue to write poetry today as a way to express myself and connect with others who have shared similar experiences.
